A little more about my professional background and my framework for practice.
My primary academic qualifications are in Social Work to which I've added postgraduate qualifications in Art Therapy.
My practice at it's core is solution focussed and strengths based, I support you to build on what is already working well and to develop new ways of achieving the changes you want.
Many people experience mental health issues at some time in their lives. I may assist you to develop strategies to lesson the impact that living with anxiety, depression and trauma can have on your life.
Mindfulness Based Practice, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy are some of the 'tools in my practice bag' and because each of us is unique there is no one size fits all approach to how we might work together.
I am an Accredited Member of The Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) and this membership requires me to maintain a high level of ongoing professional development. My particular area of interest is Rural Mental Health which impacts on education and employment outcomes for rural Australians.
When my daughter was transitioning from College to TAFE she was part of the NDIS Pilot in Tasmania and we had our first experiences of accessing Disability Support Services. Our experiences as Carer and Participant were mixed and from then on I developed a strong and growing belief in the need for Social Workers to become involved as independent Service Providers under the NDIS. I recently registered as a Provider for Specialist Services. You can read more about this on my NDIS pages.
